Lloyd’s is an authorised insurer in Hong Kong and has participated in the Hong Kong market for many years.  Lloyd’s underwriters can write direct insurance and reinsurance business in Hong Kong.  Lloyd’s has five syndicate service companies and eleven independent coverholders operating in Hong Kong.

Lloyd’s wrote £81 million of business from Hong Kong in 2008, 77% of this was direct business.

In Hong Kong, Lloyd's is best known as a specialist insurer with niche lines such as marine business including cargo and yachts, liability, jewellery, bloodstock, and commercial motor.

Lloyd's underwriters also have the opportunity to work closely with brokers and offer tailor made insurance products for specific risks.

Alex Faris has been based in Hong Kong as Lloyd’s General Representative since December 2004. Before that she worked with Lloyd’s Worldwide Markets in London on various projects including overseas coverholders, obtaining Lloyd’s licences in the EU Accession countries and compliance in Hong Kong and Ireland.
