Lloyds in Denmark

The Danish market is the 20th largest source of revenue for Lloyd’s globally and the premiums generated by Danish policyholders in 2008 amounted to approximately USD 160 million, 72 % of which is direct insurance and 28 % is reinsurance.

Lloyd’s is licensed in Denmark to write all classes of business except, term life insurance, surety, credit or tourist assistance and is best known locally as a market for marine and multinational property, risks.

Lloyd’s Underwriters work closely with brokers and local underwriting agents (coverholders) and are able to offer tailor-made insurance products for large risks.

Jes Anker Mikkelsen, Lloyd's General Representative in Denmark




In his role as General Representative, Jes Anker Mikkelsen manages compliance issues, the protection of the Lloyd’s brand, and other functions vital to Lloyd’s operation in Denmark. In addition Jes gives general advice to Lloyd’s underwriters and brokers on legal matters.

Jes is first point of contact for all questions regarding Lloyd’s activities in Denmark.
Jes joined the Lloyd's network of General Representatives in April 2006. Jes is a partner of the Danish law firm Bech-Bruun. He is based in Copenhagen and heads the firm's Insurance and Transport Group with some 13 specialised lawyers.

Jes has been involved in the insurance industry throughout his career representing foreign and domestic insurers in disputes, coverage issues as well as regulatory matters. He has developed an extensive network of contacts within the industry all over the world and has given lectures and written articles on insurance issues. He is admitted to all courts in Denmark, including the Supreme Court. Furthermore, he is a qualified mediator and the chairman of the Danish Association of Mediation Lawyers.

Erik spent 16 years as an insurance broker, 12 of which were with Willis in Stockholm and Gothenburg. Before joining Lloyd’s, Erik was Senior Vice President, Head of Risk Management and Specialities at Marsh AB, Sweden. He graduated from Law School at the University of Uppsala and spent a year in Oslo at the Scandinavian Institute for Maritime Law studying maritime law, marine insurance and petroleum law.

Erik’s primary focus is on strengthening Lloyd's existing relationships, and developing new ones with insurance buyers in the Swedish and Nordic market.

Erik is responsible for Lloyd’s activities in the Nordic region including Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.  The premiums generated by Nordic policyholders in 2008 amounted to approximately USD 550 million, 63 % of which is direct insurance and 37% is reinsurance.
