Life Assurance Directive 2002/83/EC

Introduction
The Life Assurance Directive includes provisions relating to supervision, the solvency of insurance undertakings and the freedom to provide life assurance services in the EU. This Directive replaces all of the directives adopted in the field of life assurance since 1979 and sets out to simplify the European legislation governing life assurance by recasting into a single, consistent text all of the relevant directives.

Implementation

All 27 Member States have implemented the Life Assurance Directive.

The Life Assurance Directive will be recast into a new legislative provision, as part of the Solvency II framework.
