The Pilot
Lloyd’s is pleased to announce further details regarding the pilot of the Lloyd’s Exchange.

The purpose of the pilot is to test the design and functionality of the Lloyd’s Exchange with carriers and brokers; and to assess whether there is real benefit in implementing across the Market.

Objectives:

The key objectives of the pilot are as follows:

    • Implement the Lloyd’s Exchange to demonstrate dependable technology
    • Implement market directory (solution and registration process)
    • Deliver the Starter Connection Pack*
    • Prove connectivity via a range of methods (Starter Connection Pack, Message

Management Tools, integrated Back Office Systems, Trading Platforms etc)

  • Prove one way & two way messaging works for each connectivity method
  • Ensure Lloyd’s brokers, managing agents and company market participants are represented in the pilot
  • Complete full life cycle testing of ACORD placement and endorsement standard messages
  • Prove that identified repositories can be supported
  • Provide a quality user experience for all pilot participants
  • Test all levels of validation

* the Starter Connection Pack will be available for the pilot and may only remain available for a limited time thereafter.

Pilot Structure:

The pilot will be divided into at least three phases, which will run over a series of three month periods.  Each phase consists of two key stages:
  1. A one month technical pilot stage – to configure and test connectivity (this will last longer during Phase 1 due to technical set up with IT suppliers/service providers, which is a one off process)
  2. A two month business pilot – to confirm Lloyd’s Exchange operation and functionality involving live risks. This will involve actual message transmission between pilot participants.

Each pilot phase will bring further participants on board in a manageable fashion and be timed to include a significant renewal period.

There will be an evaluation period following the completion of each pilot phase.

During the pilot, it is anticipated that participants will operate in nominated ‘pairs’, in order to prove connectivity and functionality in a controlled environment.

Having completed a pilot phase, organisations are able to continue to use the Exchange should they choose to do so e.g. a pilot participant in phase 1 will continue to use the Exchange throughout all further phases but with wider scope, such as more partners or further classes of business.

Preliminary testing:

Technical connectivity testing has been completed with the following IT Suppliers/Service Providers:

  • Eurobase with TriSystems tick
  • Perspective Technologies tick
  • Ri3K tick
  • Room with Web Connectivity tick
  • The Insurance Workplace (TIW)  tick
  • Trace tick
  • TriSystemstick
  • Web Connectivity tick

This testing has been conducted to ensure pilot participants using these IT Suppliers/Service Providers should experience a smooth and easy connection to the Exchange.

tick- indicates where preliminary testing has already been complete

What support is available for participants during the pilot?

All technical and business process issues should be referred to the Lloyd's Exchange Helpdesk, technical issues will be dealt with by Lloyd's/IBM and process issues will be referred on to EPIG.

Do I need to implement end point addressing to take part in the pilot ?

The Lloyd's Exchange is agnostic with respect to end point addressing as it uses information in the message attachment to route messages, however some organisations are reliant on the SOAP body containing the ultimate sender and receiver information in order for them to route messages once received.

A commitment was made by all members of the Electronic Placement Implementation Group to implement end point addressing in time for the commencement of phase 1 of the Lloyd’s Exchange. The current position is that not everyone has done so, therefore it is necessary the relax the requirement for phase 1 to accommodate those who do not have this in place. For phase 2 onwards we would encourage all organisations to implement End Point Addressing as it will be made mandatory at some point in the future.
