Trading names - August 2005

Changes to the way trading names are displayed.

There have been a number of changes in the way in which trading names are displayed.

Every trading name can now be given a start and end date so that trading names that are no longer used can be removed from the system. If a trading name has been given an end date it will still appear in the search results and will include the date that the name ceased to be used. It will not be possible to register a new binding authority against a trading name that has ceased unless it is back dated to a point where the name was valid.

When a binding authority is registered against a trading name, as opposed to the main coverholder's name, the trading name will now include a suffix of '(a trading name of [approved coverholder])'. This provides additional clarity and removes the situation where a name begins with phrases including 'trading as'.

In some cases a trading name has been entered that is actually the parent companies name, this has been done to accommodate those instances where a binding authority needs to be registered in the following format, '[approved coverholder] a division of [approved coverholders parent]'. In these cases the new suffix described above will not be applied, but you will need to select both the coverholder's name and the relevant trading name.
