Broker Registration

Information and guidance on becoming a registered Lloyd's broker.

Lloyd's broker registration

We have made a number of changes to streamline the entire application process for brokers. These changes will result in new applicants experiencing a quicker and more efficient application process, no longer needing to prepare a Lloyd's specific business plan if approved by the FSA, or be subject to unnecessary duplication of requirements between Lloyd's and the regulator.

If you are considering applying for Lloyd's broker registration you should first read the guide for applicants document and the associated Xchanging application information pack . Lloyd's welcomes applications from brokers, in the UK or overseas, who want direct access to the Lloyd's market and who maintain high levels of professionalism, integrity and customer service.

Xchanging information pack

The information pack produced by Xchanging, who provide premium, policy and claims processing services to the London insurance market, is also under review and will be updated in due course. The current pack includes a description of how business is placed in the London market and includes examples of the documents used, with guidance on their completion. While this pack will be updated the underlying principles and requirements remain unchanged.

Registration process

One of the first steps in applying to become a registered Lloyd's broker will be for you to attend a meeting at Lloyd's before you submit a formal application. The meeting will give us the opportunity to learn more about your firm and your reasons for wanting to become a registered Lloyd's broker. It will also provide you with an opportunity to ask us any questions which may not be covered in the guide or information pack.

Please do not complete the application form at this stage. The form should only be submitted to Lloyd's after the meeting has been held and we have discussed your application and explained our requirements to you.

In addition, you can also download the Xchanging required information pack which provides a structure to be used for the technical back office procedure manual describing how you will interface with Xchanging and a range of dummy test risks. Test risk documentation will need to be provided with your application for each of the classes of business you propose to place in the Lloyd's market.
