Lloyd’s announces new General Representative for Germany

Lloyd’s, the world’s specialist insurance market, has appointed Jan Blumenthal as its General Representative for Germany.
He will also take over the function of Country Manager for Germany and for Austria.
Mr Blumenthal joins Lloyd’s from Willis Germany where he was Chief Client Advocate and a member of the Management Executive Board. He replaces Burkard von Siegfried who retires at the end of January after 20 years’ service as Lloyd’s General Representative in Germany.

“I would like to give my thanks to Burkard and for his 20 years’ service with Lloyd’s. He not only successfully managed the Lloyd’s office in Germany since 1992, but has also visibly introduced and strengthened the Lloyd’s brand in the German insurance community.”

- Jan Blumenthal has over 30 years experience in the insurance business, much of which has been spent with leading brokers like Jauch & Hübener and Willis. His experience also includes internships with London City brokers and spending four years working in then US. Prior to joining Lloyd’s, Jan was Chief Client Advocate and Network Country Manager of Willis in Germany.
- Jan takes up the position of General Representative to Germany on the 1 February.
- Lloyd’s obtained its licence for establishment business in Germany in 1989; there are now seven service companies operating there, and 16 coverholders. Key classes of business are marine, aviation, property and casualty. Bespoke lines include contingency risks, political risks, fine arts and sports insurance.
- Lloyd’s obtained its licence for establishment business in Austria in 2008, but services business has been conducted there since 1994. Key classes of business for Lloyd’s Austria are transport, aviation, commercial and industrial as well as private property and casualty classes. Bespoke lines such as contingency risks, political risks, fine arts and sports insurance are growing in popularity.
