Lloyd's in Greece
Lloyd’s has a long established history of writing insurance business from Greece, particularly marine insurance.
Prior to the implementation of European Insurance Directives into Greek law, Lloyd’s underwriters wrote marine business by virtue of a special exemption and non-marine business after obtaining a non-marine licence in 1991.
Today, Lloyd’s underwriters are authorised to write all classes of business from Greece on both a Freedom of services, establishment (except term life) and reinsurance basis.
The General Representative for Greece is Lloyd’s Greece SA. It is managed by country manager Marianna Papadakis. The role of Lloyd’s Greece SA is to protect the Lloyd’s brand in Greece, represent Lloyd’s in its relations with the Greek authorities and to support the market in their activities and initiatives in Greece.
Lloyd’s presence in Greece continues to grow, with marine insurance remaining the largest class of business. Lloyd’s has eight local coverholders offering a diverse range of non-marine, specialist insurance and reinsurance products in the Greek market.
