Rodney Smith joined Lloyd's as US Regional Director of our new Southeast region in late 2010. Rod is a graduate of the Risk Management and Insurance department of the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business and has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry.
He was originally trained as a property/casualty underwriter by Aetna, moving from there to Southeast Regional Director of Claims & Risk Control at GAB & Gates McDonald. Subsequent positions included a national sales & marketing role in alternative market products at AIG, southeast region VP for XL Capital and, most recently, vice president at ICAT (Lloyd's syndicate 4242).
During his six years with ICAT, Rod was responsible for new product development, underwriting discipline and relationship management in their Eastern Seaboard region. In this role, Rod interacted with retail & wholesale brokers, managing general agents and state regulators from Florida to Maine, experience that will have an immediate impact on our market development efforts in the Southeast.
Southeast region states include Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi.
