Welcome to Lloyd's in the US

This website has been designed to help licensed US brokers understand the unique nature of Lloyd's of London and how it operates in the US.

The US accounts for over a third of Lloyd's premium income, but regulations about how to access us vary from state to state.

Placing risk

Lloyd's may write most classes of business in the US on a surplus lines basis. Note that Lloyd's does not write life or financial guaranty insurance.

There are two main ways you can place a risk at Lloyd's, through a Lloyd's broker, or through a Lloyd's coverholder. Less commonly people access the market via a service company or open market correspondent.
