Lloyd’s Community Programme volunteers are active in over twenty schools in East London each week – making a huge impact in the lives of hundreds of children.

Literacy and numeracy are the building blocks of a good start in life. They also open up all kinds of opportunities beyond school, whether getting a good job or just getting along socially.


Schools in Tower Hamlets and Hackney have made impressive strides in helping children achieve more, and our business volunteers build on that good work.


As one of them, you’d spend a lunchtime (either once a week or fortnight) working with individual children to make numbers fun, or to help them develop their reading, comprehension and verbal skills. In turn, the kids get more than just a leg-up in English and Maths: they get an insight into the world of work and business that’s on their doorstep.


The one-to-one interaction with you, an adult from the city, also enhances their communication skills and builds self-confidence. And you’ll find there’s nothing like half an hour with an enquiring and enthusiastic nine year-old to help inject your day with some fresh energy.

 

  • How do I get involved?

     

    To get involved there are four easy steps:

    Step 1  email hannah.payson@lloyds.com to register your interest

    Step 2  Complete a police check form (CRB) which must be approved before you can become a Reading or Number Partner 

    Step 3  Attend a lunch time training session, held in Lloyd's

    Step 4  Liaise with your school coordinator to find out where and when your Reading/Number Partners is 

  • Handy hints for filling out a Police Check form


    Filling in a Police Check form (CRB form) can be a bit daunting at first.  Please find below some hints to make the process as smooth and straight forward as possible.

    • Always use BLOCK CAPITALS and BLACK INK
    • Complete all the mandatory fields marked YELLOW (EXCEPT sections a28, a30 and d50 as they no longer apply).
    • Provide 2 documents showing proof of address and one document with a photo ID (For Example: recent utility bill and bank statement and passport or UK photocard drivers licence)

    Reading and Number Partners training sessions take place every 8-10 weeks. Sessions will take place at Lloyd's over lunctime. To register for a session, please contact hannah.payson@lloyds.com.
