On Wednesday 10 April 2013, over 50 Lloyd’s Community Programme volunteers supported Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation’s Spring Neighbourhood Games (previously known as Winter Neighbourhood Games) at PlayOn Sports in Canary Wharf.
Tower Hamlets Youth Sports Foundation, through their Stepping Stones Programme, aims to break barriers to sport down by training local young people aged 16 -19 to set up and run mini clubs for primary schools in their area. It’s the local knowledge and understanding they bring to the role that has proved the key to delivering real results for children in their communities.
The Spring Neighbourhood Games provided an opportunity for over 400 children from Tower Hamlets to take part in competitive Football, Hockey, Basketball and Squash tournaments and sample new sports including Gymnastics, Street Dance and Taekwondo.
Volunteers from Lloyd’s market companies and Corporation refereed and umpired the tournaments, coached children in a number of taster sport sessions, helped with the organisation on the day and took part themselves in the taster sports!
