What Lloyd's does

Information about Lloyd's unique ways of working can be found here.

Lloyd’s is a market. Like any market, Lloyd’s allows those with something to sell (in this case, underwriters providing insurance coverage) to make contact with those who want to buy (brokers working on behalf of clients who are looking for insurance).

As such, Lloyd’s is home to a great deal of talented, knowledgeable and experienced people. Many of the world’s most skilled and experienced specialist underwriters come together here – both competing for business and, when the risks are particularly complex, providing shared cover.

Above all, it’s this market structure which makes Lloyd’s unique, and gives us the dynamism, agility and decisiveness we’re famed for. Find out about how the different parts of the market work in more detail on the following pages and in our Explorer Tool.
