Claims Graduate Programme

This new programme has been developed for those graduates wishing to specialise in the area of insurance claims. Claims is the ‘shop window’ of the insurance industry and Lloyd’s unparalleled reputation for professionalism and expertise in claims management means that it is the cornerstone of our business.

If you’re a sharp commercial thinker with a flair for negotiation, the claims graduate programme provides fast track development that will hone that talent. It’s designed to prepare you for a career as a claims adjuster in the market (these are the skilled professionals who manage claims from their initial investigation through to conclusion by consulting with experts, negotiating and exercising strategic decision making). Claims is a cornerstone of our business, and much of Lloyd’s trusted reputation has been built through our management of claims. Today there’s a great focus on this area as it continues to sharpen our competitive edge. That’s why – as one of our future leaders – we’ll invest heavily in your development, and make sure you have all the support and opportunities that you need to succeed.

What will you experience?

Over 12 months you’ll take on two placements and a series of job-shadowing opportunities. You’ll begin with placements in a broking house, and managing agency, before going on to gain experience in a law firm, loss adjuster (a business that investigates the circumstances of claims to decide how much is payable), the Lloyd’s claims team and one of Lloyd’s claims service providers. Our range of work means you’ll experience our claims expertise across diverse areas, including marine, aviation, property and energy.

You’ll also learn through formal training, workshops and seminars – as well as networking events. Of course, because our whole industry is built upon relationships, much of what you learn will come from the talented colleagues around you. We’ll monitor your progress to help you develop into a rounded professional with powerful business management skills that are highly regarded and highly transferable.

What will you need?

Claims takes a great deal of mental agility and natural people skills. In addition, to make the most of the opportunity, you’ll need to have:

  • At least a 2:1 (or an expected 2:1) in any subject
  • Natural communication and relationship building skills
  • A flair for negotiation
  • Commercial acumen
  • Analytical thinking and an eye for detail
  • Good problem solving skills
