Lloyd’s will once again be participating in the Open House London weekend on Saturday 19 September 2009. Open House is the capital’s biggest architectural celebration and gives the general public a rare opportunity to visit over 600 buildings, old and new, across London – many of them normally closed to the public – completely free of charge.
Government buildings, embassies, legal practices, private residences and, of course, business headquarters such as the Lord Richard Rogers’ designed Lloyd’s building offer the public a unique look behind the scenes of London’s most important and influential structures.
In 1978, faced with the prospect of overcrowding, the Lloyd’s Committee commissioned the architect Richard Rogers (now Lord Rogers of Riverside) to redevelop the Lloyd’s 1958 building in Lime Street. In November 1986, HM The Queen officially opened the new building at One Lime Street, which Lloyd’s occupies today.
Opening times:
10:00 – 17:00 (last admission 16:00) on Saturday 19 September 2009
(Lloyd’s will not be open on Sunday 20 September)
Please note, there will be no guided tours on the day, however, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Underwriting Room, the Nelson Collection, the 18th century Adam Room, and enjoy the magnificent view of London from Lloyd’s external glass lifts.
Representatives from Lloyd’s will be on hand during the day to answer any questions visitors may have.
We advise visitors to arrive early as queues are likely. Refreshments will be available.
