New Singfest Initiative!

As part of LCP’s Culture for Kids initiative, a new project was piloted this term with the educational music charity Music Platform.

Singing
SingFest culminated with a performance at the LCP 20th anniversary celebrations.

The Singfest project was designed to help volunteers from the Lloyd’s market with an interest in music and singing to have some fun delivering programmes of music, literacy and singing activities for children in local East London Primary Schools where English is often only the second or third language for a large majority of pupils.

The project employs professional choral trainers and places them in schools alongside class teachers and volunteers with the intention of helping children prepare a selection of songs ready for performance.

Armed with only a set of vocal chords, the SingFest SongBook, a sense of humour and a lot of enthusiasm, volunteers embarked on this exciting adventure.

Volunteers from the Lloyd’s Market worked with children in seven primary schools from Tower Hamlets visiting them weekly to help the children improve their songs and practice them.

The project culminated with performances at the Museum of London (Docklands) in June and at the Lloyd’s 20th Anniversary Celebrations in July.
