“We are privileged to work within the Lloyd’s market, so I believe we should be prepared to give something back to the local community and, if we can, help young people to develop skills needed for the workplace,” commented Terry Hayday, Manager: Professional Standards within the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) and Non-Executive Chairman of Pembroke Managing Agency.
A keen supporter of Lloyd’s Community Programme, Terry took part in a Head to Head mock interview session at Raines School in Bethnal Green in 2007. This allowed him to meet four pupils from Year 10 and informally interview them about their aspirations for future careers.
This experience offers young people the chance to prepare for real interviews and to receive constructive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses before going out into the ‘real world’
“Part of my work at the LMA involves recruitment and training at graduate level so I was really interested to see what is going on in schools and to hear about the aspirations of younger people. The experience was very rewarding and I was very impressed by the students I met at the session,” said Terry.
Head to Head is one of the ready for work sessions supported by Lloyd’s Community Programme aimed at addressing youth unemployment in East London.
