Experts at Lloyd's put their thinking caps on

17 March

Lloyd's Tercentenary Foundation has met with key representatives from the Lloyd’s market to discuss, debate and consider new research into topics of importance to society as a whole and to the insurance sector, in a special workshop held at Lloyd’s.

Lloyd's Tercentenary Foundation has supported academic research for over twenty years and takes a particular interest in supporting top flight research students at the early stages of their careers. The foundation has sponsored research projects in a wide range of fields ranging from the environment and engineering to medicine.

The Foundation is now aiming to expand the range of research topics being supported to areas relevant to the insurance industry and society. Possible new topics include bio-risk; nanotechnology; the vulnerability of satellites and the psychological drivers of decision making.

The Foundation is working in conjunction with the Lighthill Risk Network, an organisation that brings together scientific research, industry, Government and third party organisations in exchanging risk related expertise.

Gathering the views of representatives from across the market was an important first step and there will now be consultation amongst the academic community with a view to announcing the future focus of Lloyd’s Tercentenary Foundation in the summer.
