Dedicated to cutting carbon emissions.

Following a Carbon Trust Audit of energy use at One Lime Street, we are aiming to cut energy use further in 2007, having set resource reduction targets and implementing a number of measures, such as improving the efficiency of our heating systems.

Lloyd’s focus on environmental issues also covers waste, cleaning, catering, procurement, transport and communication. Lloyd’s works with suppliers, tenants, staff and market participants on a number of environmental initiatives.

Indeed the work with Lloyd’s in-house caterers, Avenance has resulted in the introduction of more biodegradable and recycling products being used. Since 2004, Lloyd’s has cut the volume of waste going into landfill from the Lloyd’s building by 10%. Over the same period we have increased the amount we recycle from 12% to 32% of total waste.

The environmental actions have been enthusiastically received by staff, with a number volunteering to become environmental champions as part of the ‘A Greener Lloyd’s’ campaign. Best Practice Guidelines on Lloyd’s environmental actions have also been developed for employees.

360 Risk Project climate change
As today’s risk environment is changing and evolving more rapidly than ever, businesses need to prepare for the prospect of growing natural hazard risks. The Lloyd’s 360 Risk Project on climate change is focusing on catastrophe trends and what we can do to anticipate and respond to the mounting threat of catastrophe risk.

ClimateWise
The ClimateWise principles provide a framework for insurance companies worldwide to set out how they will build climate change into their business operations. The principles have been developed following consultation between The Prince of Wales’s Business & the Environment Programme, Lloyd’s, the ABI, and other insurance market participants.
