Running community services can throw up the same challenges and complexities faced by multi-million pound businesses. Leadership, people skills, organisation, using resources effectively – the same disciplines apply and, with time such a rare commodity, there’s a pressing need to develop leadership skills on the job.
Policing is just one example, and senior volunteers from the market provide regular mentoring support to members of the Senior Management Team at Hackney Police. They pass on business-related skills, helping them to respond more effectively to some of the most challenging policing environments in the country.
