The Charity Challenge teams had to step on the accelerator for a further surprise challenge which they received from the Judges last Friday.
Each team has been allocated two hours of time in one of six highly desirable classic and modern cars and has had just three days to sell rides in the cars – either to those who want to get behind the wheel or to those who fancy being chauffeured around – for as much money as possible for their allocated charity.
The teams were provided with a list of cars donated by the Classic Car Club and had to respond as quickly as possible with their preferred car for their two hours. The cars were then allocated on how quickly they responded.
Argenta was the first team to respond and got their first choice of the Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino. Second to respond was Hiscox who were allocated the Porsche 911t, and in third place was Chaucer who were excited to be allocated the Jaguar e-type Coupe (as pictured).
Each of the teams has devised their own inventive strategies for allocating their cars. Some of the teams have decided to raffle off half-hour slots, while other teams have decided to auction off their entire two-hour slot to the highest bidder.
The six classic cars arrived outside the Lloyd’s Building at 11.30 on Wednesday 18 June to pick up their first drivers and passengers of the day.
Holly Bellingham, Chairman of Marketform and one of the judges of the Charity Challenge said: "We are now into the third week of the Charity Challenge and the classic car event has been a real test for the teams as they are now also extremely focused on their own fundraising plans. We were really encouraged that they took up this latest challenge with such enthusiasm."
Other fundraising activities
In addition to the weekly challenges, the teams have also all been hard at work implementing their own fundraising strategies.
The Willis team which is supporting Coram has been busy organising a mini golf tournament which will take place on Thursday 19 June on Lime Street from 10.00 until 18.00. Teaming up with the Great Britain Mini Golf Sport team, Team Willis has three 'UrbanCrazy' golf fairways for competitors to put their putting skills to the test. A prize will be awarded for the lowest score of the day. All are invited to come along and have a go.
Lloyd’s Market Operations & North America team has also been embracing the challenge with great enthusiasm. The team, which is supporting FARM-Africa, will be hosting a quiz at the Auberge Bar in the City of London on Wednesday 2 July. To enter a team please e-mail MONAFarmAfricaChari@lloyds.com.
Meanwhile, the ten members of the Argenta team will be attempting to cycle a virtual lap of the M25 motorway on a stationary bicycle outside the 'Canopy Entrance' of the Lloyd’s Building from 09.30 on Friday 20 June. A Pinnacle Borealis Hybrid bike, kindly donated by Evans Cycles, is the prize up for grabs for the person that guesses correctly, to the nearest minute, how long it will take the team to cycle the 123.4 miles to complete the challenge. The team is charging £5 per guess and donors will receive a Team Argenta wristband. All the money raised will be going to their partner charity, Samaritans. Donations and guesses can also be made via their Just Giving link featured on their team page.
The partner charities are delighted with the support they are receiving from Lloyd's Charity Challenge teams. CEO of FARM-Africa, Dr Christie Peacock commented to lloyds.com: “The energy and enthusiasm of Lloyd’s Charities Trust partnership and all those taking part means that thousands of farmers in East Africa will be better able to meet the daily challenge of feeding themselves and their families. The support that FARM-Africa is receiving through our Charity Challenge teams APG (Alsford Page and Gems), Canopius, Hiscox, and Lloyd’s Market Operations and North America is truly inspirational.”
