Last week’s ‘Rush for Riches’ challenge provided a great warm up for the teams involved in Lloyd’s Charity Challenge. This week sees the 11 teams take on the challenge of a 10k run. Each team has been allocated one place in the British 10k race being held on 6 July. The teams have all found themselves a volunteer to run and now need to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship. The team that raises the most sponsorship money will be the winners. The teams will also be rewarded for the fastest finisher in the race.
Graham White, Deputy Chairman of Lloyd’s and Argenta Syndicate Management and one of the judges of the fundraising initiative commented to Lloyds.com: “The Lloyd’s Charity Challenge is all about energy, passion and creativity. The teams are going to have to use all these qualities and more to raise as much sponsorship as possible”.
The teams
The teams have all shown great enthusiasm but what are they planning over the fundraising month? The team from Lloyd’s Market Reserving and Capital Department are already off the starting block with an innovative fundraising idea for their charity - Samaritans.
The Lloyd’s Market Reserving and Capital team (MRC) are offering you the unique opportunity to have a member of the team serve you at your beck and call for two days during what they are calling ‘mini secondments.’
Whether it’s a seminar or training session given by Henry Johnson, Lloyd’s Head of MRC and Actuary or you simply want someone to pour you tea and coffee all day, the Lloyd’s MRC team are promising you will receive service with a smile! The team has made twelve of their actuarial team available to you and hope that you will take advantage of their skills and talents for the two day secondments.
David Brown, Team Leader commented to Lloyds.com: “We have a team packed with skilled actuarial talent. Whether it be Q2 reserving, ICA modelling and parameter setting, US trust fund analysis, in-house training sessions; or topical presentations on market issues, we can do it. We want to make the best of the skills we have to raise the maximum possible amount of money for Samaritans.”
The team are also happy to lend a hand with any other actuarial functions your company might need including performance monitoring and reporting; premium rating review; reinsurance analysis and claims analysis.
To take advantage of these services and at the same time raise money for the Lloyd’s MRC team’s charity, Samaritans, you can bid via a silent auction. Click here for more information on the bidding process or email David Brown at david.brown@lloyds.com.
Samaritans Senior Corporate Fundraiser Suki Dale said: “It is great to see the Lloyd’s MRC team using their work day skills to benefit the whole market. It certainly brings new meaning to the phrase if you’ve got it, flaunt it! We hope this great fundraising initiative will be a big success in raising funds for Samaritans' 24/7 emotional support service.”
Broker APG has been kicking off their own fundraising ideas. Team members have begun a number of weight loss challenges, successfully participated in a half marathon, set up an in-house library and also have the customary office "inappropriate language" box .
On top of this APG have been donated gifts which have been auctioned off for cash. The team are also involving their clients in the challenge; they have prepared a slip that clients can use to donate to FARM-Africa when they receive their policies. The clients have already been showing their generosity, contributing over £1000 so far in donations. More events are being planned.
The team from Liberty – who are raising funds for Coram - have a special interest in this summer’s Euro 2008 football tournament as they holding a sweepstake. You can have a guess on anything form the tournament winner to the number of Premier League players to start the final. Sweepstake forms are available from Liberty’s box at Lloyd’s.
Dr Carol Homden, Chief Executive of Coram is delighted with the support for the children’s charity and says: “It is fantastic to see so many underwriters and brokers giving up their time to take part in the Charity Challenge. We are really looking forward to working with the teams from Marketform, Chaucer, Willis and Liberty as the challenge progresses.”
