Do you know your Chardonnay from your Sauvignon Blanc or your Merlot from your Shiraz?
That was just some of the teasers facing the Lloyd’s Charity Challengers as they embarked on their third weekly task - the Wine is Right.
Hosted and sponsored by Corney & Barrow at 1 Leadenhall Place, each team was tasked with selling tickets to the evening event on Wednesday 25 June in a bid to raise cash for their allotted charity.
But it wasn’t just the taste buds that were tested as the teams faced eight wine related challenges. The challenges included tasting Sauvignon wines and guessing the most expensive one, working out the wine growing areas in the world and taking part in the Jeroboam Challenge – involving the fun task of holding a Jeroboam for as long as possible.
The winner of the Wine is Right Challenge on the night was Lloyd’s broker Alsford Page & Gems, with the team winning a magnum of champagne. But the APG team generously gave the bottle back to be auctioned to raise further money for the charities, with Marketform’s Paul Newson splashing out £130 to take home the bubbly.
All those who attended the evening were automatically entered into a prize draw drawn by Holly Bellingham, Lloyd’s Charity Challenge Judge and Marketform’s Chairman. The top prize of dinner for two and a night in top London hotel, The Stafford in Mayfair was won by Hiscox’s Greg Widelski. Samantha Hu from Marketform took second prize, a voucher for a bouquet of flowers from Wild at Heart.
The team that raised the most money from ticket sales for the wine evening will be announced at the final Charity Challenge event on July 8.
