It’s the moment every employee dreads – being called into the boss’ office.
But for 11 teams of Lloyd’s brokers and underwriters it was the final exercise of the month-long Charity Challenge – ‘Meet the Judges’.
The teams waited in the Green Room before being given five minutes in the company of the Charity Challenge’s judges – Lord Levene, Graham White and Holly Bellingham.
The interviews gave the judges the chance to quiz the teams individually on how they had approached the Challenge, how much they expected to raise overall and a run-down of the activities undertaken, or still planned, as the Challenge moved into its final week.
The responses formed part of the judges’ final deliberations, as they will be rewarding not just the Challenge Champions but will also be presenting a Challenge Creatives accolade – the team that, in the judges’ view, has approached the Charity Challenge in the most interesting way.
The teams took a variety of approaches to getting their message across to the judges. While some favoured the professional, slick delivery, others went for a more eye-catching delivery, including Chaucer dressing up as superheroes to advertise their Stars and Stripes Day on July 4, and Willis in plus-fours and with golf clubs, as they described their strategy, which included a golf-putting competition outside their new building on Lime Street.
Teams have just a few days left to add those vital pounds to their pots, and there are activities a plenty this week, including a quiz night, a champagne and canapés evening, and a poker night.
All fundraising activities must end by midnight Sunday July 6. The winning team will be announced on July 8.
