Lloyd’s Charity Challenge kicked off on 3 June 2008 with the goal of raising as much money as possible for Lloyd’s Charities Trust’s three partner charities: Coram, FARM-Africa and Samaritans.
Eleven teams from the Lloyd's market entered the month-long quest. Lloyd's Chairman, Lord Levene and his judges - Holly Bellingham, Chairman of Marketform and Graham White, Managing Director of Argenta Private Capital laid down the Challenge at the first event on 3 June. The judges then set the teams off on the Rush for Riches challenge - a 45 minute dash around the Square Mile.
The teams then embarked upon a month of fundraising activities for their allocated partner charity. The teams were also faced with weekly challenges laid down by the judges from taking part in a 10k run to selling rides in classic cars and tickets for a 'Wine is Right' evening. They were also called to 'Meet the Judges' to enable the judges to quiz the teams on their progress.
The exciting Challenge culminated at the final event on 8 July with Lord Levene announcing to the 11 teams and representatives from the partner charities that a staggering £250,000 had been raised for the three charities.
Prizes were awarded to the winning team - the Challenge Champions - Marketform, for raising £70,000 from a host of activities including a Champagne and Canapes evening to a sponsored weight loss programme and children's drawing competition. The Challenge Creatives accolade was awarded to Beazley for the most innovative fundraising which included a popular school disco evening.
