Helping those who serve

The grants provided by Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund to service and ex service people and their families for case of real need, can make a real difference to people’s lives.  The grants are provided through the charity’s work with SSAFA Forces Help and here are some examples of how the grants have helped.

Steve’s story
For Steve the support of Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund has been a great help.

Supporting those in need.

After serving with the Royal Green Jackets with time spent in Northern Ireland, Steve completed his engagement in 1993.  In 2006 Steve undertook service in Iraq as a reservist attached to the Lancashire Regiment.  He received blast injuries to his face and was discharged and is undergoing medical care which has left him unable to work.

As a single parent caring for a daughter his funds were limited and he was unable to pay for the replacement of a much needed central heating boiler.  A grant from Lloyd's Patriotic Fund helped him to meet the needs and enabled him to replace the boiler, making life a little easier for him and his daughter.

Robert’s story
After 15 years in the army serving with the Queen's Own Highlanders, Highlanders and Royal Highland Fusiliers, Robert left the forces after severe health issues including depression, post traumatic stress disorder and agoraphobia.  While trying to apply for benefit, Robert has accrued debts and was given essential financial support by Lloyd's Patriotic Fund which helped him to rebuild his life.

Peggy’s story
Peggy was extremely grateful for the help given by the charity.  Originally Peggy had served with the Women’s Royal Air Force and her husband with the Royal Engineers but at 88 years of age, she was finding life at home was difficult.  Reduced mobility made it hard for Peggy to climb the stairs.  A grant from Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund has helped to pay for the installation of a stair lift, allowing her to maintain her independence and keep living in her house.
