The project
Southern Sudan is recovering from a 20 year civil war and following the peace agreement, large numbers of refugees are returning to rebuild their lives. But the refugees are faced with a lack of experience of farming and no tools or livestock to help them, coupled with limited access to drinking water.
The Lloyd’s Charities Trust’s grant will be used to support the Household Recovery Programme in Southern Sudan, which aims to lift over 90,000 people out of extreme poverty. The programme will reduce the risk people face by providing households with access to clean water, high yield seed, agricultural tools, livestock restocking and knowledge of how to care for their animals.
“It is a huge honour for FARM-Africa to be chosen to work in partnership with the Lloyd’s Charities Trust. Together our two organisations have a unique opportunity to improve the lives of thousands of families in Southern Sudan,” Christie Peacock, FARM-Africa’s Chief Executive Officer commented to lloyds.com.
