We’re after the very best graduates. But then, isn’t everyone? And besides, what exactly does 'the very best' mean?
Let’s start by opening it up a little. In our minds, the 'very best' could come from anywhere. Any university. Any course. Any part of the country. Any background. In fact, we steadfastly refuse to narrow our search for talent. The fact is, if you can prove you’re good enough to be the future of the world’s leading specialist insurance market, we’ll be delighted to welcome you.
We want you to be the kind of person who’s eager to learn all about Lloyd’s, question how we do things, and lead us forward. Will you be capable of doing all of that right here, right now? Possibly not. But we’ll be looking for promise and potential. As well as the competencies we'll assess you against, we’ll be looking for capability in the following areas:
Academic excellence
Intelligence is very important in a complex organisation such as ours. So, we’ll be looking for high-calibre graduates who’ve received, or who are predicted to receive, at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) in any degree subject.
Communication
Anyone and everyone can 'communicate'. It’s something else to be able to earn someone’s trust, quickly. Yet that’s what we’ll ask of you. Lloyd’s is built on relationships, so you’ll need to be sensitive to people’s differing styles, persuasive no matter who you’re addressing and always focused on working together.
Analysis/creativity
Why have we put two such different traits together? Because you can’t have one without the other here. You’ll need to be numerate, sharp, analytical. And then you’ll need to use those insights in a creative, never-been-done-before way.
Enthusiasm
We’re excited and fascinated by what we do in equal measures. And we’ll be looking for a similar spark in you.
Ambition
Notice we didn’t say arrogance or aggression. Rather, we’d like to see that you’re keen to learn, develop and make an impact. But also patient enough to know you can’t do it all at once. One more thing: ambition doesn’t necessarily mean you know what you want to do with your career. This is a generalist scheme, so we’re looking for people with open minds and a thirst for learning.
Flexibility
This is a place where priorities can shift in an instant, and success depends on being several steps ahead so you will need to be flexible.
Ownership
We’ll support you every step of the way. However, the people who will do best here are undoubtedly those who take accountability for their own career. There’s a rich variety of opportunities to take advantage of. The onus will be on you to pinpoint what you’d like to learn or do, and go for it.
