General
Do you accept candidates who require a work permit?
Unfortunately not. Having the right to work in the UK is a prerequisite of our scheme. (This does not include student visas).

Will I have the opportunity to move around and take secondments – or work abroad?
Over the course of the scheme you’ll undertake a series of placements in various areas within Lloyd’s, across both the Corporation and the market.

However, while Lloyd’s is a global organisation, your placements on the graduate scheme are likely to be UK-based. Some of our placements may bring you into direct contact with our international offices. For example, in International Regulatory Access you could be liaising with our international representatives and advising the market on how to conduct business in a particular territory. Alternatively, in International Markets & Business Development, you could be writing or presenting a report on the insurance industry in an emerging market. You can find out more about these in the Placements section of the website.

Will you be attending any career events?
Yes. You can see full details of these on our Events calendar.

How long is the graduate programme?
The scheme runs for 18 months. Over the course of the scheme, you’ll undertake a series of placements in various areas within Lloyd’s, across both the Corporation and the market.

What happens after the Graduate Programme?
Once you’ve successfully completed the scheme you’ll be able to explore options to move into a role within either the Corporation or the market. We’ll certainly expect you to continue to develop at a similar pace – although the onus is on you to own and manage your career, and of course, to show us what you can do. You can find more information on this question in our Career Options section.

I am interested in opportunities outside your graduate programme; how do I go about applying?
You can see opportunities outside the graduate programme at our main recruitment site.

What kind of people are you looking for?
In a word, you need to be exceptional. But that doesn’t mean you need to have attended a particular university or studied a particular degree subject (though we do ask you have at least a 2:1). You can find more details on who we’re looking for in the relevant section of our site as well as the recruitment competencies we will assess you against.

Where will I be located?
Mostly, you’ll be based in London, either at One Lime Street, or (during market placements) at a managing agent’s London premises. There may also be some placements in our Chatham office, for example, within our Market Services department.

Where can I get a brochure?

You can download a PDF version of our brochure here (1MB, pdf). Also, everyone who gets invited to the final assessment centre will be sent a brochure and a booklet entitled ‘Why I work at Lloyd’s / So You Want to Work at Lloyd's’.

Are language skills useful?
Yes, although they’re not essential. While we have offices around the world, the majority of our contact with international staff is in English.
